Extensions That Fit Right Into the Neighbourhood
The background
Keeping up with the neighbours
This terraced house was in a residential street where pretty much everyone had already added extensions to their homes. Our client wanted to do the same, bringing their property up to the same standard as their neighbours. Along with the extensions, they also planned to change the use of the property to suit their needs.

The brief
A ground-floor extension with a twist and a dormer
The goal was to build a unique ground-floor extension (a bit of an unusual shape) that needed a full planning application, and add a dormer extension under permitted development. Once the building work was done, the client wanted to make a change of use to the property.

The challenges
Getting approval for an unusual design
The tricky part was the ground-floor extension—it had a bit of an odd shape, which could have been a problem for planning. Luckily, a neighbour submitted a similar proposal at the same time, which helped make the case. The council was happy to approve it since it fit the look of the street and kept everything consistent with the neighbourhood vibe.
With the extensions approved and the change of use sorted, the property got the upgrade it needed, blending in perfectly with the area and giving the client exactly what they wanted.
