This client had a semi-detached cottage at 81 High Street, Cambridge, which they wanted converting into an Airbnb. As entrepreneurs ourselves, we couldn’t resist the challenge. With an existing ground-floor extension, the project focused on ensuring the property met Building Control standards and carrying out an interior design overhaul with a “tropical vibe.”

Balancing Client Requirements and Future Flexibility
The client’s brief had several components to consider, including quite specific kitchen upgrades and some unusual design requests. However, with plans to potentially convert the property into an HMO in the future, it was fundamental that the design was flexible and easily adapted. We ensured the design allowed for this while delivering on the client’s particular taste as well as the aspects required to run a thriving Airbnb.

Navigating Client Preferences and Technical Challenges
The project’s main challenge was the client’s shifting directions on what they wanted from the design and function of the space. But we persevered. After multiple iterations, we settled on a vibrant tropical-inspired interior while ensuring practicality with aspects like wall insulation. We went for internal insulation to preserve the building’s exterior character. The project is now ready to welcome guests, where they can enjoy a stylish yet functional space for the duration of their stay.
